The international seminar on ‘Role of Mass Media in promotion of Nepal-India relations’ concluded here on Tuesday, emphasizing on the need to strengthen the role of media persons and media to further deepen the age-old friendly ties at the people’s level between the two countries.
It was also announced at the end of the two-day seminar to form the Nepal-India media workers friendly association as a common forum of journalists of the two countries to work to clear misunderstandings and semi-understandings in the bilateral relations.
Addressing the concluding session, Vice-chancellor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi Journalism and Communications National University of Madhya Pradhesh, India Prof BK Kuthiyal announced to bring out a publication through his University of a compilation of news materials published in the media of the two countries, as well as a dedicated website on Indo-Nepal relations.
The President’s communication advisor, Madhav Sharma, chief editor of Indian newspaper ‘Tarun Bharat’, Gajanan Namdev, editor of ‘Ghatana ra Bichar’ weekly, Babita Basnet, Chairperson of Media Action Nepal, Laxman Dutta Panta, among others urged media of both countries to be responsible towards the people and to strengthen people’s level relation between Nepal and India.
Similarly, senior journalist and former Chief of Central Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Tribhuvan University, P Kharel, Makhanlal Chaturvedi , Lecturer at National University, Arun Bhagat, among others pointed out the need of collaboration and support on curriculum development, research, exchange of lecturers and sharing teaching experience between communication and journalism academy of Nepal and India.
Chairperson of International Relations Committee under the Legislature-Parliament, Prabhu Shah, urged the media of both countries to play positive role to strengthen the relations between Nepal and India while former Vice-Chancellor of the Kathmandu University and educationist Dr Suresh Raj Sharma said that universities, people and cultural academies of both countries should take initiative to appreciate the sentiments of the people regarding Nepal-India relationship.
Kathmandu University, BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation and Media Action Nepal were co-organisers of the international seminar hosted by the Makhanlal Chaturvedi Journalism and Communications National University of Madhya Pradhesh, India. RSS
